Santander and Technical University of Dresden arrange partnership

Mönchengladbach/Dresden, 23st of December 2016. Fernando Silva, fully authorized representative of the Santander Consumer Bank AG and Hans Müller-Steinhagen, headmaster of the Technical University of Dresden signed an agreement regarding to their future cooperation. The focus of the cooperation is the financial support of the “TU Dresden Welcome Centers“, the “ServiceCenterStudium“ as well as the “Regional Sciences Latin America“.

The TU Dresden Welcome Center is an institution of the DRESDEN-concept e.V. Since 2012, it operates as a service provider for the integration of international visiting scientists. Nowadays the Welcome Center assists about 150 scientists and their families. By means of Santander, the portfolio is going to be expanded regarding to both offer and personnel. Thus, every scientist can receive an optimized offer.

„Internationalization and the development of a culture of welcome are fundamental parts of a successful academic future. This applies to the universities as well as to all of the universities members. And last not but least to our global network of Santander Universities”, illustrates Fernando Silva. The network of the partner universities can reach its potential only through an active linking of all partner universities, says Silva further. “We are really happy, that the TU Dresden is now a part of this network.”

Besides of the “ServiceCenterStudium“, which provides assistance regarding to the student life in Germany’s largest technical university for about 35.800 students, 7,400 of it freshmen, Santander supports the project “Regional Sciences Latin America“ for the next three years. The course offer should provide access for students to Non-European cultures and offer them a preparation for the job market, on which regional-specific additional qualification becomes more and more important. Through the financial support, guest lectures and physical resources are going to be financed.

“We are glad and grateful, that by the support of Santander the Technical University of Dresden will be enabled to enlarge important international projects concerning both research and teaching. Further, we can strengthen the culture of welcome with the support by Santander”, explains rector of the TU Dresden Professor Hans Müller-Steinhagen. “Science is international and with institutions like our Welcome Center, we can offer the best in class start in Dresden to researchers and their families from all over the world.”

Furthermore, the bank wants to expand its support by offering ten Germany Scholarships in 2018 and a support program for scholarship holders in 2019.

Santander supports the Technical University of Dresden in the name of Santander Universities Germany, which is part of the global department “Santander Universidades”. In the context of the social engagement of the bank, Santander Universities in Germany keeps cooperation with twelve partner universities as well as the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV) since 2011.

According to a recent report of UNESCO, Santander today is the major private supporter of higher education.
