Poland, 1st July 2014-. ‘Public debt reflected in a permanent current account deficit is one of the greatest challenges faced by the Polish economy,’ said Mateusz Morawiecki, CEO of BZ WBK in Poland, in the lecture theatre of the University of Lódz. The lecture was organized as part of the cooperation with Santander Universities.

With his lecture on the major economic challenges, Morawiecki initiated a series of talks about the economic prospects in Central and Eastern Europe. Morawiecki’s speech was followed by other lectures delivered by, among others, prof. Zbigniew Rau, prof. Michal Sewerynski, and prof. Teresa Romanowska-Debowska.

CEO of Bank Zachodni WBK explained that the country’s economy is harmed largely by a low propensity to save, small competitive strength, and high consumer expectations. “Having such talented citizens, we are able to get out of the emerging market trap and catch up on the most developed countries in next to no time,” stressed Morawiecki, referring to demographic trends and the increasing economic activity rate.

Santander Universities means prestige
The lecture was organised as part of the cooperation with Santander Universities. The University of Lódz is one of the most active participants of the programme. “Thanks to the projects financed by Santander Universities, our university is becoming more prestigious and sought after, and our students and research workers can further improve their scientific and professional skills,” says prof. Wlodzimierz Nykiel, Rector of the University of Lódz.

The first agreement with Santander Universities was signed in December 2012, which was the very beginning of this beneficial cooperation. By signing the second agreement, the parties confirmed their willingness to continue the programme. The new agreement between the University of Lódz and Bank Zachodni WBK is valid until 31 August 2015.
