Santander recognized by Top Employers Institute in Europe and six countries for its human resource management

  • Top Employers Institute recognizes the excellent working conditions at Santander Spain, Bank Zachodni WBK in Poland, Santander UK and at the Santander Consumer Finance units in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
  • The award shows Santander’s progress in reaching its strategic objective of being among the top three employers in the main markets in which it operates.
  • Only four banks in the world have earned the European certification.

Madrid, 8 February 2017. Santander has earned certification from Top Employers Institute, the global authority that recognizes excellence for the conditions employers provide their professionals. Santander Spain, Bank Zachodni WBK (Santander’s subsidiary in Poland), Santander UK and Santander Consumer Finance in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as the Group in Europe, were awarded. This makes Santander one of only four banks recognized across Europe.

With this internationally renowned certification, Santander demonstrates progress toward reaching its strategic goal to be among the top three best banks to work for in its main markets, for which it initiated its cultural transformation to become a bank that is simple, personal and fair with the purpose to help businesses and families prosper.

Top Employers Europe 2017 helps companies attract talent and reinforce employee engagement. In order to become certified, the most demanding standards must be met in a survey that externally evaluates and audits almost 600 human resource practices in areas such as talent retention, training and development plans, improvement in management, leadership, career and succession plans, compensation and benefits policies for professionals, and the corporate culture.

Roberto di Bernardini, head of global Human Resources at Banco Santander, explained: “The certification is a clear reflection of our commitment to make Santander a better bank to work for and underlines how, by working together, we are creating a bank which is more simple, personal and fair, and helps people and businesses prosper. The core and the driver of this transformation are people. This means we have to continue focusing our efforts on developing talent and in creating a new, more flexible, digital and healthy way of working, which fosters collaboration and innovation, and helps us to attract and retain world-class professionals."

David Plink, CEO of Top Employers Institute said: “In order for employees to carry out their activities in optimal conditions, they must be allowed to develop professionally and personally. Our study has concluded that Santander in Europe provides an outstanding work environment and offers a wide range of innovative initiatives, from social benefits and work conditions to programmes to improve team management, all of which are well aligned with company culture.”
