Felipe García Ascencio

Chief executive officer of Santander México

Felipe García joined Santander México in July 2020 as Head of Banking and Corporate Finance. He was named CEO in July 2022. Previously, he had been appointed Head of Santander Corporate and Investment Banking (SCIB) México in June 2021. 

Mr García has over 25 years of experience in investment banking at top institutions in New York, managing clients in Mexico and other Latin American countries.  Before joining Santander, he was Head of Origination at Credit Suisse, originating and executing transactions for corporate and sovereign clients in Latin America; he also held numerous roles at Goldman Sachs.

Mr García began his career in the Public Debt Office of Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. From there, he went on to do macroeconomic and market research at a small firm before specializing in debt capital markets and liability management at Goldman Sachs and in structured loans, acquisition finance, high-yield bond offerings and derivatives at Credit Suisse, working with investment and private bankers.

He holds a university degree in economics from Instituto Tecnológico Autonómo de México (ITAM) and a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
