Our commitment to improving customer experience, our pursuit of innovation and our ability to generate excellent results on a recurring basis have been recognised by The Banker magazine. Santander has been named “Bank of the Year” in Spain, Western Europe and the Americas, as well as “Bank of the Year” in Portugal, Argentina and Chile.
This is the fifth time that The Banker magazine has chosen Santander as “Bank of the Year” in Western Europe and the eighth time in the Americas, while Portugal, Chile and Argentina have repeatedly been recognised by The Banker in its annual awards.
This accolade recognises the efforts we have made in terms of digitalisation, increased efficiency and customer loyalty. The publication also highlights our capacity to generate excellent financial results despite the difficult economic conditions, as well as the successful integration of Banco Popular.
Jose Antonio Álvarez, CEO of Santander Group, states: “We are very satisfied with this recognition as the best bank in Western Europe and the Americas in 2019. It has been a good year, in which we have continued to increase our customer base and strengthen our business, despite the difficult external conditions. This reflects the strength of our model and strategy, and the quality of our teams.”
Innovation, part of Santander’s DNA
This is not the first time The Banker has recognised Santander’s commitment to innovation. In 2017, the magazine named Santander “Global Bank of the Year”, due to its innovative use of technology, among other factors.
Santander’s transformational capacity has always been highly praised, we were the only bank named among Chile’s most innovative companies in the most recent “Best Place to Innovate” ranking.
In the latest Fintech Americas awards, the Group’s Mexican subsidiary won an award for the launch of its smartwatch payment technology. This is yet another of our initiatives aimed at promoting more efficient and accessible financial services. And the Group’s international transfer service based on blockchain technology, One Pay FX, was also recognised with one of the “Silver Awards” at the 2018 Innovación awards.
