The Santander professionals who took part in the Fortune study stress that the bank treats employees fairly regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.
“This recognition is a major step forward and a solid foundation on which we will build a more responsible bank that is not only excellent in basic matters but that also addresses the current challenges,” says our Group executive chairman, Ana Botín.
Employees who are proud to be part of Santander
One of our objectives is to ensure that the workforce develops a sense of belonging, gratitude and pride in working at Santander. Currently, 91% of our employees are proud to be part of Santander. This is the case of Ángel, a data scientist at the bank. “When they told me I would be joining the Data Analytics team, I thought, ‘Wow, I’m so lucky.’ And several years later, I still feel the same way.” Since he started in his job, his work has always been linked with the bank’s vision of innovation and technology. “It's great to know that I bring value and that I am in a place where they listen to us and where we can be creative and where innovative ideas are always appreciated. If I wake up with the same enthusiasm as on my first day, I think that’s a good sign.”
But Ángel’s story is not the only one. Gorka’s career in the Recruitment area was also given a kick-start when he joined us. “People imagine a bank to be just a branch where you spend all day in front of the computer. But it’s not really like that,” explains Gorka. For some time now, he has been exploring and launching new formats, such as Work Café, the ambitious project he is currently working on. “Being part of this team allows me to be myself because my job is to enable others to work in a different, freer environment, with no walls or routines holding them back. To work in such a pleasant environment is a luxury. And if, on top of that, the work I do has such a big impact on people’s lives, it becomes a privilege,” he explains.
