The scholarships improve participants’ access to the labour market and opportunities in professional environments.
Apply at Becas Santander until 31 August.
Madrid, 15 June 2023.
Banco Santander reinforces its commitment to language training as a lever for employability and alongside the British Council is launching a new edition of the Becas Santander | Online English Courses 2023, a programme offering 5000 scholarships for over-18s from 11 countries (Argentina, Germany, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Spain, Portugal, Poland, the UK and Uruguay).
The aim is to train participants to improve their access to the labour market and opportunities in professional environments. They will receive training to improve communication in the professional workplace, improve grammar and vocabulary, prepare for job interviews and learn how to interact with professionals from other sectors.
The call for applications will remain open until 31 August at Becas Santander. With this new edition, there are now 10,000 grants available this year to learn English. This is in addition to the more than 5000 scholarships awarded last year.
The training is 100% online, costs nothing to the beneficiaries and does not require them to be a customer of the bank or to have a university degree. Upon completion, they will receive a certificate of participation from the British Council.
The programme offers five levels of training, lasts 16 weeks and includes 12 tutored online group classes. Beneficiaries will have to take a test on the British Council's online English language training platform to determine their level.
As Blanca Sagastume, Director of Santander Universities, Open Innovation & Blockchain puts it, "languages continue to be one of the most in-demand transversal skills in the markets. With the aim of improving the employability of our communities, we, together with the British Council, have decided to launch a new call for scholarship applications, which have been so successful year after year".
Carolina Jiménez, Head of Higher Education at the British Council Spain added that, "We are very proud of this new call for more than 5000 online scholarships, which represent 5000 new opportunities to promote the development, multiculturalism and, of course, the employability of students. I would also like to highlight the fact that on this occasion we have once again opted for the online format, to adapt to students' demands for flexibility and to be able to reach a greater number of places and territories".
