José M. Linares
Senior Executive Vice-President of Banco Santander and Global head of Santander CIB
José María Linares is Senior Executive Vice-President of Banco Santander and Global Head of Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB). He reports directly to the Group CEO and is a member of both the Management Committee and the Risk Executive Committee.
He joined Santander in 2017 to lead the transformation and global expansion of the Corporate & Investment Banking division, positioning it as a leading global CIB franchise.
In addition, he serves on the Boards of Directors of Santander US, Inc., Santander Bank, N.A., and Santander CIB New York and he is also a member of the Strategy Committee of Santander. He has also served as a board member of Santander Asset Management.
Prior to joining Santander, José spent more than 17 years at J.P. Morgan, holding various senior roles in investment banking across New York, Hong Kong, and London. During his tenure, he was a member of the EMEA leadership team, Vice Chairman of J.P. Morgan Bank International, and Vice Chairman of the Balance Sheet Committee. He also served on the Global Equities Executive Committee and the Commitments Committee.
He began his career covering Latin American equities at Morgan Stanley in New York.
José María Linares holds a degree in Finance and Economics from Babson College, graduating summa cum laude, and an MBA from Columbia University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
He currently is member of the Advisory Council of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and serves on the Board of Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB).
