Faro Santander, a new museum by Fundación Banco Santander, will open its doors on 8 September to encounters, sharing and experimentation. It aims to become a vibrant, open cultural space that connects with the local community, and where art, technology, education and experimentation live in harmony all year round.
Programmes will follow these four lines of action: Art and technology, Education and mediation, Participatory projects, and Public programmes. And they all have the same aim: to bring culture to diverse audiences, forge new relationships with the arts, and connect Faro Santander with the city, Cantabria, and other cultural practitioners.
What is it?
Faro Santander is Fundación Banco Santander’s latest cultural initiative, with the aim to become the go-to space for meeting and creating.
Its opening will mark a new milestone for the city by offering a dynamic, stimulating and accessible venue to enjoy, discover and share.
A place for everyone.
The building
Pereda boasts a lengthy past. Throughout the years, it has been a hotel, regatta club and, for almost a century, the Banco Santander HQ.
It’s now beginning a new chapter as Faro Santander, a culture and leisure venue.

MASTERPIECES FROM THE BANCO SANTANDER COLLECTION
Masterpieces from the Banco Santander Collection, which spans almost five centuries of art history, from the Renaissance to contemporary art, will bring together works by some of the greatest figures in art history such as Titian, el Greco, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya, Tàpies, Soledad Sevilla and Juan Uslé, among others. Curated by María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, the exhibition will be open to the public from September 8, 2026, to February, 2027.
MODERN MEXICO IN THE GELMAN SANTANDER COLLECTION
Modern Mexico in the Gelman Santander Collection will feature works of exceptional historical and cultural significance by artists including Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Orozco, Siquieros and Gunther Gerzso. Curated by Marisol Argüelles, the exhibition will be open to the public from September 8, 2026, to January 10, 2027.
THE SYMPTOMATIC SURREAL: LEONORA CARRINGTON
The exhibition explores a pivotal moment in the artist's life, bringing together for the first time the two pieces Leonora created during her time in Santander, along with some of the drawings from her previously scattered notebooks. It will show for the first time the work Villa Pilar, painted by Carrington in 1940 and which has remained unseen for decades. Curated by Vanessa Boni, the exhibition will be open to the public from September 8, 2026, to January 10, 2027.
