Santander Portugal is waiving a series of fees and encouraging customers to use contactless payment

With a view to supporting businesses and people, Santander Portugal has recently taken a series of extraordinary and temporary measures designed for businesses and individuals and aimed at mitigating the effects of the covid-19 pandemic.
Santander is waiving the POS monthly fee for all merchants, and not applying the requirement of a minimum amount on transactions. With a view to supporting contactless transactions, Santander is also suspending all MBWay fees at POS.
Additionally, Santander encourages all individual customers to use its digital platforms, app and online banking, and to make convenient and safe contactless payments. To this end, all payments from Santander's digital channels are free of any charge.
For in-shop purchases, customers must prioritise the use of contactless technology and, for this reason, Santander will be transitioning all cards to the new technology, no fees applied.
These measures will be in force for at least one month.
