The list of award winners includes companies that are making a real difference around the world on sustainability issues. In the case of Latin America, both Santander Mexico and Santander Chile have made a remarkable contribution by successfully combining their financial pursuits with green and social impact endeavours.

“At Santander Mexico, we are acutely aware that in the present day and age we must carry out our economic activities while acting responsibly towards the environment and the communities to which we belong. Our business-related indicators show us that we are doing responsible banking in harmony with our activity as a company, which our customers value today more than ever. We are therefore immensely proud of this accolade”, remarked Marcela Espinosa, executive head of Responsible Banking at Santander Mexico.

The award winners were picked on the basis of their environmental and social achievements while running their business from May 2020 to April 2021. Key aspects influencing the choice of winners were sustainable finance, community support, resource management, reporting and transparency, infrastructure, supply chain finance and emerging market sustainability finance.

This is the second accolade that Santander Mexico has earned from the magazine. Back in 2016, Global Finance named it “Best Bank in Mexico” thanks to its successful strategies and results, which enabled it to outperform in the Mexican market.
