Santander has been named world’s best retail bank (also known as ‘Global Best Bank for Consumers’) at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence, in recognition of the bank’s transformation over the past two years. Euromoney notes that Santander “has done more than any other established bank in the world” with its global integration, new digital platform, and the “reinvention of its branches” (Work Cafés). The publication also highlights the bank’s expansion into markets such as the United States with Openbank, product simplification, and improved efficiency. Euromoney believes this transformation makes Santander, the largest international bank in the world outside Asia, with 175 million customers, “more capable of leveraging international economies of scale.”
Among the 23 awards received by Santander, another highlight is the recognition for the ‘Best Bank’ in Latin America, as well as four individual ‘Best Bank’ awards in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Portugal. In addition, the SME business continues to receive special recognition in Latin America (‘Best Bank’), Europe (‘Best Digital Bank for SMEs’), and Spain (‘Best Bank’).
We are delighted to be named best retail bank in the world by Euromoney. This recognition reflects the outstanding efforts of our teams and their dedication to supporting the 175 million people and businesses we serve. I’m grateful to Euromoney for acknowledging the impact they are making and would like to thank all of our employees for their continued hard work and commitment.
Santander has also received the awards for ‘Best Bank for Consumers’ in Brazil, ‘Best Digital Bank’ in Chile, and ‘Best Bank for Customer Experience’ in Poland. On the other hand, Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) has been named ‘Best Bank’ in that business in Brazil, Spain, Poland, and Uruguay, and has also been recognized in Mexico for its capital markets business and in Portugal for its mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity.
Santander’s commitment to inclusive growth has also been recognized by Euromoney, along with awards for ‘Best Bank for ESG’ (Environmental, Social and Governance) in Argentina and Spain, ‘Best Bank for Sustainable Finance’ in Brazil, and ‘Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility’ in Poland and Portugal.
For over 20 years, Euromoney has identified best practices in the banking sector worldwide. The breadth of these awards highlights the value of Santander’s global model, combined with local knowledge and presence in each of the markets where it operates.
