This unprecedented move enables the bank to catch up to digital native enterprises.
Mexico City, 18 November 2025.
Banco Santander México has successfully completed a major breakthrough in the digital transformation of Mexico's banking sector by becoming the first systemic bank to migrate the entirety of its technology infrastructure to Gravity, its global, cloud-based platform, to enhance customer experience with faster flows and new capabilities.
This is a decisive step in transitioning towards an open platform with modern and efficient data management as well as greater scalability, resilience and capability to monitor transactions. Moreover, it enables us to absorb transactional growth in Mexico and puts us on equal footing with digital native enterprises that have operated this way since their inception. This is a first in Mexico and was only made possible by the talent of over 1,500 specialists based here as well as in Spain and Chile. We’re looking to the future with our own banking technology and are ready to provide the best customer experience to strengthen our digital leadership.
Felipe García Asencio, Country Head of Banco Santander México.
This full migration to the cloud will enable Santander México to get faster, simpler and more secure access to data on every transaction; cut the time needed to implement new features; and allow for more frequent app updates. All of this will improve the experience, speed and value that the bank offers its customers, who will now enjoy faster and more powerful banking services.
The experience of implementing Gravity in Mexico speaks to the ability of Santander’s global teams and moves us closer to achieving our aim of becoming the best open financial services platform and the first major bank in the western world to operate fully in the cloud. We’re now using Gravity in Spain, the US, Chile and Mexico.
David Chaos, Global Head of Technology and Operations – Retail and Commercial Banking at Santander
Following the rollout of Gravity as its banking core, Santander México will process over 250 billion transactions per year with highs of 38,000 transactions per second, without interruption.
As Santander’s cloud-based platform, Gravity was built with the latest features. The Banker magazine named Santander the world’s most innovative bank on the back of Gravity’s successful implementation.
