The bank mobilized 14 billion euros in the first half of the year to reach 188 billion euros since 2019.

Madrid, 2 September 2026.
Banco Santander hit 188 billion euros in green finance raised or facilitated by the end of H1 2026, which is over 85% of its 220-billion-euro target by 2030.

In the first six months of this year, the bank raised or facilitated 14 billion euros in green finance — 7.1 billion in Q1 and 6.9 billion in Q2.

Objective: Support the transition

The bank continues to pursue its aim to support customers in their transition by providing finance for activities and initiatives in renewable energy and other solutions that enable them to drive through their plans to transform to a low-carbon economy.

In 2Q’26, Santander took part in Solaria’s 300-million-euro capital increase to roll out clean energy in data centres, wind power and battery storage; in the financing of Foxtail Flats and Four Mile Mesa Solar and Storage as part of two solar power and storage projects in the US; and took on several leadership roles in transactions under the European Green Bond (EuGB) standard.

World leader in renewable energy financing

The progress Santander made in 2026 is further testament to the work it carried out last year. In 2025, the bank mobilized 34.6 billion euros in green finance (up 29% on 2024) to reach 174 billion euros in total since 2019.

According to Infralogic, also in 2025, Santander became the world’s leading bank in renewable energy finance by number of transactions and by value. The bank closed 100 deals (up 22% on the previous year) worth 12.244 billion euros and has a 5.58% market share.

The renewable energy greenfield projects that Santander financed or oversaw in 2025 accounted for 16.8 GW of new capacity, according to the bank’s figures.

Target: 220 billion euros by 2030

Santander set a target to raise or facilitate 220 billion euros in green finance between 2019 and 2030 after achieving its previous target of 120 billion by 2025 early.

Having reached 188 billion euros by the end of June 2026, the bank has already hit 85% of its target.

Green finance is part of Santander’s strategy to support its customers through the transition and to harness the business opportunities on the back of the transformation of such sectors as energy, transport, industry and construction to move towards a more sustainable economy.
