The coronavirus pandemic means that many people are missing the chance to watch their favourite sports. So LaLiga Santander gathered some of Spain’s top players and music artists to raise money to help beat coronavirus.

The Santander Challenge and LaLiga Santander Fest – two events followed by huge numbers from home – came together with the aim to entertain and raise funds for providing medical supplies and equipment to those in most need at the same time.

Spanish influencer Ibai Llanos was very successful in persuading nearly 20 professional first division footballers to represent their respective clubs in the LaLiga Santander Challenge, a competition using the popular video game FIFA 20, which was streamed live on various channels, such as the official social media accounts of LaLiga Santander.  Marco Asensio, representing Real Madrid, was the winner. However, the real prize was having raised close to EUR 180,000 to fight coronavirus.

Several days later, on the back of this success, it was time for music. LaLiga Santander Fest was a live-streamed concert watched by over 50 million music fans around the world. This international broadcast featured artists such as David Bisbal, J Balvin and Alejandro Sanz.

Our ambassadors attended this virtual event too, with special appearances from tennis pro Rafa Nadal, swimmer Mireia Belmonte and Carolina Marín, the badminton player. The event raised an incredible EUR 1,003,532.
