The final of the CONMEBOL Libertadores, the most important competition in Latin America, which Santander has been sponsoring for the last 13 years, was held on Saturday 30 January 2021.
Fans of the beautiful game had eagerly awaited the sixtieth Libertadores final, which featured two teams from Brazil and ended with victory for S.E Palmeiras over Santos F.C. This historic final was played behind closed doors at Rio de Janeiro’s mythical Maracanã stadium and was broadcasted to 191 countries worldwide.
On the day before the final, we organised the Santander Media House, a virtual event attended by more than 60 international media outlets that were able to discover first-hand what famous former players thought about the match. Using various formats, such as one-to-one interviews, press conferences and TV specials, we were joined by Ronaldo Nazário, global ambassador for Banco Santander’s football sponsorships and the Brazilian stars Marcos (Marcos Roberto Silveira Reis, Brazilian international and Palmeiras legend) and Leo (Leonardo Bastos, Brazilian international who played ten seasons for Santos).
