Santander, through Santander Universities, works to encourage the international exchange of students and lecturers, to facilitate access to university for economically underprivileged students and to promote specialist research and education through postgraduate scholarships.
In 2013, 22.422 scholarships, study aids and professional internships were awarded to university students worldwide. It is the largest investment in grants and mobility programmes by any private institution in the world.
Since 2005, the bank has invested about 210 million euros in more than 110,000 Santander Scholarships.
Santander will designate €600 million until 2015 to funding university projects and collaboration agreements with universities.

Santander has launched Ágora, the Santander internship network open to cooperation, participation and innovation. It offers information on the different grant programmes and socio-educational and cultural activities carried out by Banco Santander from its Santander Universities Global Division. Santander support for setting up the Ibero-American Knowledge Community. In December 2010, the Ibero-American Summit on "Education and Social Inclusion" held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, included Santander Universities as a key actor in the Ibero-American Knowledge Space. It is the first time in the history of these summits that a private institution has received this recognition.
The grants are aimed at promoting international mobility for students and teaching staff, facilitating access to university, promoting research and the specialised training of teachers, and developing professional practices.
