Santander Totta, the 'Most solid bank' in the country for the third year running

  • The publication 'Exame' named Santander Totta the 'most solid large bank' in Portugal, according to the results of a study carried out by the international consultancy firm Deloitte and Informa D&B

03/01/2013. To study the solidity of banks operating in Portugal, the study analysed 5 indicators: the cost of credit risk in the results, the credit ratio in delinquency, the ratio of equity, Tier 1 capital and responsibilities with pensions.

Santander Totta received this distinction as the 'most solid large bank' for the third year running, which demonstrates its strong operational structure and solid balance sheet.

Solidity and liquidity were the Bank's strategic priorities owing to the economic scenario and the markets. The Bank maintained its capital and liquidity ratios by deleveraging its balance sheet through the reduction of credit and the achievement of growth in deposits.

In an economic and financial scenario which is still proving to be very tough and demanding, Santander Totta has registered good results thanks to its commercial activities and its customer portfolio. Furthermore, it has maintained sustainable growth in terms of the deposits on its balance sheet, reinforcing its position of solidity and liquidity and its capacity to serve and support the Portuguese economy.

In addition to this award, Santander Totta has won various other distinctions from prestigious publications over the course of 2012. It was recently named 'Bank of the Year' in Portugal by The Banker magazine and ‘Best Bank in Portugal ’ by Euromoney and Global Finance.
