Main lines of action
Access
We help unbanked and underbanked people enter the financial system and gain access to basic financial services, encourage them to use financial services that are tailored to their needs and barriers, have greater control over their finances, and enjoy faster and more secure transactions.
Our initiatives include access to cash and transactions, digital tools, and financial solutions for vulnerable groups.
Finance
We finance underbanked SMEs and entrepreneurs, as well as the basic needs of low-income households through products and services that we tailor to their needs. Through initiatives such as Prospera in Brazil and Colombia, Tuiio in Mexico and Surgir in Peru, we offer loans to boost new ventures’ income-generating capacity and help microentrepreneurs safeguard their businesses.
We also seek to finance the basic needs of low-income households through tailored products, such as affordable housing programmes and measures to relieve financial difficulty, including mortgage payment holidays. We also offer loans to individuals and SMEs with limited access to the financial system.
Financial health
We define financial health as individuals’ ability to manage their finances in a way that enables them to meet short-term needs while planning for and achieving long-term goals, generating stability, and reducing the risk of financial hardship.
We run initiatives in all our markets to promote our customers’ resilience, planning, security and financial control, especially the most vulnerable groups.
The solutions we make available to our customers include tools to improve money management, calculators, and debt advisers, which combined with financial education act as triggers to boost their financial health through informed decisions.
We continue to bolster financial education as a strategic lever of progress that boosts financial health and social inclusion in the markets where we operate. We combine solutions based on target audiences and intended outcomes: on the one hand, more efficient and scalable digital initiatives; and on the other, in-person initiatives that focus on vulnerable groups.
For Santander, how we achieve results is just as important as achieving them. We leverage on our business to help our customers in their transition to a low-carbon economy; promote financial health and inclusion; and support education, employability and entrepreneurship.
