Financial inclusion

Financial health and inclusion are a priority for Santander in contributing to social progress and promoting prosperity and entrepreneurship.

Our target is to financially include 5 million people between 2023 and 2025*

*through access and finance initiatives (not including financial education programmes).

Our main lines of action

Access

san_drop_up

Our ambition is to facilitate access to basic financial services for groups that are not banked or poorly banked, encouraging their use, adapting them to their needs and the barriers they face and supporting them to have greater control over their finances and enjoy faster and safer operations.

We have initiatives that promote access to cash and transactions, digital access and financial solutions for vulnerable groups, among others.

Financing

san_drop_up

We work to facilitate access to credit for SMEs and entrepreneurs with difficulties, especially in underserved communities via microcredit. Through initiatives such as Prospera Brasil in Brazil and Prospera Colombia in Colombia, Tuiio in Mexico and Surgir in Peru, we support the economic development of vulnerable people.

We also seek to finance the basic needs of low-income people through tailored products, such as affordable housing programs or measures to relieve financial tensions, including mortgage deferral. In addition, we also offer loans for individuals and SMEs with limited access to the financial system.

Financial health

san_drop_up

We define financial health as the ability of people to manage their finances to meet their short-term needs and long-term goals, achieving stability to avoid situations of financial stress.

We have initiatives in all countries that promote the resilience, planning, security or financial control of our clients, especially the most vulnerable.

The solutions available to our clients include tools to improve money management, calculators and debt advisors, which together with financial education act as triggers to improve the financial health of our clients by making informed decisions.

Corporate volunteering

At Santander we encourage our employees to volunteer in initiatives that help the communities where we have a presence.

These initiatives, which the Group promotes and supports, seek to get employees to dedicate their time and use their skills and talent to support charitable causes, non-profit projects and organizations that benefit society.

Corporate volunteering is a valuable way for employees to engage with the community and contribute to a social cause. In particular, it aims to:

  • contribute to the Group’s community support objectives through the direct involvement of Group employees in volunteering programmes;
  • foster a culture of inclusion by breaking down prejudices and stereotypes;
  • enhance our employees’ skills and work environment through collaboration; and
  • contribute to the well-being of our employees through experiences that provide satisfaction, purpose and pride of belonging.
