"Internal Audit plays a crucial role in Santander becoming a more responsible bank.”
Ana Botín (Group executive chairman)
Audit Convention, 8 and 9 October 2019

"Internal Audit must speak up for the group. It must identify, warn about and anticipate risks."
José Antonio Álvarez (CEO)
Audit Convention, 8 and 9 October 2019

Internal Audit is a permanent function that is independent of all other functions and units. It provides the board of directors and senior management with independent assurance on the quality and efficiency of internal control processes and systems, risk management and governance. We help to protect the organisation's value, solvency and reputation.

Who we are...

Internal Audit is a corporate centre division that meets all of the needs of the corporation, the whole management team and local units in countries where the group's presence justifies this or it is required by regulatory provisions. It is integrated into the organisational structure of the main retail banks in those countries, reporting to the competent local body.

What we do…

We assess the efficiency and effectiveness of processes and systems, compliance with regulations and the requirements of supervisors, the reliability and integrity of financial and operating information and the integrity of the group's assets. We are one of the most important lines of defence in the group.

Why you should join us...

Internal Audit drives the internal transfer of knowledge, helping provide an overview of the function and fostering the professional development of auditors. We seek out specific profiles with analytical capabilities and rigorous approaches in reaching conclusions, who are highly motivated and committed, and who will work in collaboration with the units audited. We value adaptability and the ability to work as part of a team. High ethical standards are essential, as is availability to travel.
