• More than 50 students from different universities in the country exchange their academic experience, aspirations and concerns.
   

Banco Santander, through Santander Universities Uruguay, organized the first edition of the Santander Scholars Meeting, an exchange space between authorities of the institution and young people from public and private universities in the country who have been beneficiaries of one of the bank's scholarship programs.

The colloquium was attended by Gustavo Trelles, Country Head of Santander in Uruguay, who contributed his vision and experience on aspects related to leadership, teamwork and the challenges assumed by the company for the future. In addition, Pablo Gaudio, Commercial Director, María de la Paz Goldaracena, manager of Santander Universities and Federico Lamaison, Marketing and Communication Manager participated.

For Banco Santander, support for higher education is one of its strategic priorities and provides this support through a pioneering and unique initiative: Santander Universities, which focuses on education, entrepreneurship and employment.

The Santander Scholarships, one of the areas of action and axis of the meeting, have their own platform (http://www.becas-santander.com/), where the university community can find scholarships for study, mobility and research that will contribute to their academic development and professional.

“Santander Universities represents the best example of how the bank intends to impact the progress of people and companies. Support for higher education is one of the strategic axes on which we rely to strengthen the access of young people in the country to the labor market. Martin Regueiro, a student at ORT University, highlighted the importance of the Babson Build for Santander Universities Students scholarship: “It is an experience that allows the comparison of methodologies and contributes to the development of our current work. It was an incredible two weeks, we met Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology”, he recalled.

Meanwhile, Malen Magalí Coppola, a teacher student at Elbio Fernández, reflected on the role of teachers in the education system. “We have to get out of the diffusion of knowledge and involve the student, make him think, and generate an exchange. The teacher is an intermediary to use the tools with certain strategies”, he said.

On the other hand, Agustín Sugo, a student of the Catholic University of Uruguay, referred to the importance of constant updating and professional training in a world in which knowledge and information advance vertiginously. “We have to be aware of the contribution and the changes that each one makes from its place. Our career is no longer linked only to accounting, but also involves thinking about how decision making affects our environment”, he said.

On the other hand, Ana Gatti, participant of the International Scholarships Program, highlighted the relevance of the W50 Scholarship and the emotion that it meant to live the experience. “When I applied, I was confident that I could be selected; I thought it was for me. The program goes hand in hand with the goal I always set out to look for, that women have access to the same opportunities as men in organizations. It is a valuable experience for the tools that are acquired and for the people you know”, she said.

In 2019, Santander Universities Uruguay awarded more than 350 scholarships 2019 through its three modalities: International Scholarships, Ibero-American Scholarships and Study Support. The program has an agreement with nine higher education institutions in our country: Universidad de la República (UdelaR), Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU), Universidad de Montevideo (UM), Universidad ORT, Universidad de la Empresa (UDE), Universidad CLAEH, Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC) and Elbio Fernández University Institute.
