University of Economics in Katowice

Poland, 10th July 2014-. The University of Economics in Katowice and Bank Zachodni WBK, through its Santander Universities Global Division, signed a collaboration agreement to support different university projects.

Our decision to join Santander Universidades was justified by the potential which we saw in  being a member of a global network of universities, nearly 1,200 prestigious universities from around the world to be more precise. We believe that Santander Universidades will allow us to improve our professional and scientific skills and help us to establish a stronger position on the Polish universities market‘ said prof. Leszek Zabinski, President of the University of Economics in Katowice. ‘Nowadays cooperation between science and business is not only a privilege, but also a pleasant duty. Thanks to this combination we can implement specific and innovative projects that can be used in the surrounding reality.’

As a part of Santander Universidades, we have a unique opportunity to actively participate in academic life and to support its development. For nearly three years, we have signed agreements with over 40 top Polish universities, introducing them to the global group of 1,200 universities belonging to the Santander Universidades. Today the University of Economic in Katowice has joined us.’ said Michal Kuczmierowski, Director of Santander Universidades in Poland run by Bank Zachodni WBK. ‘I am convinced that the agreement which has been signed today will soon bear fruit in the form of specific projects which will prove beneficial to the university, its students and employees. Together we can build innovative and competitive economy in Poland.’ said Director Kuczmierowski.

The University of Economics in Katowice is 44th Polish university that signed a cooperation agreement with Santander Universidades in Poland. It is one of the oldest and largest universities – offering education services to more than 12,000 students in Górny Slask. University of Economics in Katowice is also one of five public universities of economics in Poland.

Santander Universidades will support the university to carry out research & development projects which, according to the university and Bank Zachodni WBK, are the most meaningful and future oriented (63 Santander Universidades projects are currently under way in Poland). Additionally, both employees and students of Polish universities will have a chance to take part in Global Programmes, which facilitate a worldwide transfer of knowledge.

What is more, the university community may use a SmartCard developed by the Bank, through Santander Universities Global Division, with the collaboration of the university. The University Smart Card is a modern technological solution that combines the features of an electronic student card and a payment card.
