Head of Santander UK gave a lecture at the University of Strathclyde

6th of June of 2013-. The head of Santander UK Ana Botín gave a lecture entitled “The Future of the UK Economy and the Role of Entrepreneurs” to 100 guests including staff, students and key members from the bank.

Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division, has funded numerous scholarships and travel grants as well as awards and entrepreneurial activities at the University of Strathclyde since the signing of the agreement. The university is also receiving funding for 8 part-funded internship opportunities with local SMEs through their agreement with Santander. In addition to the scholarships and grants the funding provided by Santander includes supporting entrepreneurship activities.

The University of Strathclyde has strong links with the bank after the signing of a collaboration agreement in 2011. Ms. Botin was introduced by the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the university, Professor Jim McDonald.

University of Strathclyde Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Jim McDonald said: “As a leading international university our links with global business are vital to our continued excellence in research, teaching… Our partnership with Santander increases the global opportunities for our students and staff. It is very fitting that Santander Universities sponsor the Times Higher Education University of the Year Award a title we currently hold. I would like to thank Ana for her visit to the university which has helped to motivate and inspire our next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders”.

The University of Strathclyde has been named University of the year 2012/2013 by Times Higher Education magazine. Has embarked in an ambitious strategic plan which by 2015 should see the institution stand out in the fields of innovation and technology among its UK counterparts.
