Santander launches the "Formula Santander" scholarship program alongside Vettel

Mexico City, 26 October, 2016. Banco Santander Mexico announced the launch today of the “Formula Santander” scholarship program, which will benefit 100 Mexican students, at an event that featured special guest and Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver, Sebastian Vettel.

As a further reflection of Santander’s commitment to higher education in the country, this morning Sebastian Vettel, Formula 1 driver; Arturo Cherbowski Lask, Executive Director of Santander Universities and Universia CEO; and Pedro Grasa Soler, Executive Director of Campus, presented awards to students of Tecnologico de Monterrey, who have taken part in various mobility programs championed by the Bank, such as Becas Iberoamérica Santander de Grado (Latin America Undergraduate Scholarship Programme) and Becas Internacionales Iberoamérica Santander (International Scholarship Programme for Ibero-America).

The launch of the “Formula Santander” scholarship program was also announced, which will benefit 100 students of higher education institutions that have an agreement in place with Santander Universities, granting them financial assistance to study in Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru or Uruguay.

Banco Santander is a leader figure when it comes to supporting higher education in Mexico and has channeled more than two billion pesos through its scholarship programs for university students and teachers alike.

Arturo Cherbowski Lask pointed out that "these awards are intended to express our gratitude to the scholarship holders who have seized the opportunity and opened the door to new life experiences and new career opportunities, which are beyond the reach of many young people. We wish to show our appreciation of their hard work and progress and we hope this ultimately benefits their university, their communities and our country.”

Sebastian Vettel delivered a message to the young audience, in which he highlighted Santander’s prominent role in improving higher education in Mexico through numerous programmes and initiatives, all of which have made a huge difference for the students fortunate enough to take part in them. Sebastian encourages them all to persevere in their studies and to share their experience with others.

At the end of the ceremony, Sebastian Vettel enjoyed a talk with the young students and shared with them his experiences as a Formula 1 driver.
