Madrid, 3 May 2017. At the end of March, Banco Santander and the British Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the prestigious London School of Economics, held  a conference “London and the UK, opportunities in the new scenario” aimed at promoting the existing and future potential for Spanish companies in the UK

The conference was held in Madrid and attended by over 50 representatives from Spanish companies invited by Santander and some 20 British firms in the digital sector. Delegates were invited to attend a networking event afterwards.

Rajesh Agrawal, the Deputy Mayor of London for Business, and Simon Manley, the UK's Ambassador toSpain, also took part, reaffirming and highlighting existing and future business opportunities in both countries.

In his presentation, José Corral, head of Companies Banking at Santander Spain, explained that Banco Santander is a clear example of international expansion and noted the Group's experience in the UK where it has an extensive footprint.

"Thanks to Santander's strength in the UK we can help companies set up there by offering local support due to our extensive branch network and our business centres as well as specialist services aimed at supporting Spanish companies which are included in Banco Santander's non-financial offering”.

This support is provided by tools such as the Santander Trade site or the International Desk, a specialist department present in both countries aimed at supporting companies wishing to expand overseas and helping them set up in both countries. It offers specialist local knowledge of both countries and also offers companies the banking services available in both markets.

Round table
There was also a round table with Christopher Dottie, Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce, as moderator. Participants included John Carroll, head of Product and International Business at Santander UK, and Raúl Rosales, senior Advisor and Programme Director of LSE Enterprise. Mario del Olmo, CFO of Solarig Group and a customer in both countries, was the guest of honour.

John Carroll explained how Banco Santander can support Spanish companies which decide to set up in the UK, as well as stressing the Group's commitment to the UK and its importance to the bank.

Mario del Olmo described his experience as an investment company in the UK, noting the opportunities the country offers, and gave his views on what the future holds for it.
