Contract for first Santander Junior Endowed Professorship for Legal Science at the University of Cologne signed

Oliver Burda, deputy chairman of Santander Consumer Bank AG. , Axel Freimuth (Rector of the University of Cologne) and Andreas Schlüter (Secretary-General of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Humanities and Sciences in Germany).
  • A new junior endowed professorship for public law, international law, and international investment law was established at the faculty of Law at the University of Cologne.

Mönchengladbach, 29th May 2016. The qualification position for young scientists is scheduled to run for a period of six years and is sponsored by “Santander Universitäten”, the German part of Santander Universities. The support of an endowed professorship is a first for Santander in Germany.

University rector Professor Dr. Axel Freimuth and Oliver Burda, deputy chairman of Santander Consumer Bank AG, signed the contract on 10th of May.

“International law is a legal field that couldn´t be a more present and contentious issue. It´s about worldwide economic relations, especially about Free Trade Agreements such as CETA and TTIP”, explains university rector Professor Dr. Axel Freimuth. “By originating this new endowed professorship in addition to the support of the German fellowship and the Cologne Summer School our partnership with Santander is taken to a new level”.

The University of Cologne is partner of Santander Universities since 2012, a network of meanwhile 13 partner universities in Germany and about 1200 worldwide. Oliver Burda, deputy Chairman Santander Consumer Bank, explains “We are convinced that universities, as progressive thinkers, play an important role in the social development of a country. By supporting the junior endowed professorship we enhance our educational and social engagement in Germany.”

Santander Universities is a member of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Humanities and Sciences in Germany and with that, part of the international network for better education, efficient sciences and smart innovations in Germany. The Donors Association accompanies the establishment of the professorship and takes care of the financial management.
