Santander promotes research and teaching at the University of Tübingen

  • Cooperation agreement signed
  • Santander donates scholarships and supports various projects

Mönchengladbach/Tübingen, April 5th, 2018. University of Tübingen and Santander Consumer Bank AG signed a cooperation agreement on research and teaching cooperation on Thursday. The Bank is thus extending its existing commitment to two research projects in Egyptology and has increased the number of scholarships it funds to 20 annually. For the first time, a project of the Career Service is supported in which master students are prepared for leadership tasks.

The cooperation agreement was signed during a ceremony by Professor Bernd Engler, Rector of the University of Tübingen, and Fernando Silva, Chief Representative Retail & Commercial Banking Santander. "We are pleased that Santander continues the commitment to research and teaching at the University of Tübingen," said Bernd Engler. The outstanding projects of Egyptology contribute to the international visibility of the University of Tübingen. "The scholarships benefit our most talented students and with the new Master Course we can once again set accents in the interdisciplinary qualification of students."

At the signing of the contract, Fernando Silva emphasized: "It is not just in our industry that we depend on junior staff who, due to their qualifications, can take on responsibility and drive forward a fast-paced development. We are pleased about the extension of the cooperation with the University of Tübingen, as the promotion of entrepreneurship in particular fits well with the main concerns of Santander Universities."

Since 2013, the division Santander Universities, with which the bank supports academic institutions worldwide, has been supporting two Egyptology projects at the Institute for Ancient Near East Cultures (IANES): Scientists are restoring the mortuary temple of Thutmosis III in Karnak, Egypt. In another project the Egyptologists capture and edit the millennia-old reliefs of the "Alexander Sanctuary" in the temple for the first time.

In the Career Service of the University, Santander Universities promotes the development and expansion of the new course program "Studium Professionale Master" until 2020. The program for the acquisition of interdisciplinary key qualifications prepares master students, but also doctoral students, who are seeking a career outside the university, for leadership responsibility in business and society. The focus is on the topics "Leadership", "Management" and "Entrepreneurship".

With the scholarships particularly talented students are supported. The funding amounting 300 euros per month is provided half of each by the federal government and private sponsors. The scholarships are administrated by the university.
