Mönchengladbach/Cologne, July 31th 2018. Two Cologne Summer Schools have opened their doors in Cologne. Christiane Biehl, the deputy head of the International Office at the University of Cologne, patroness Professor Christiane Bongartz, and Roger Schlerf, head of Institutional Relationships Santander Universities Germany, opened the event.

This is already the 6th consecutive year the University of Cologne is organizing the interdisciplinary Cologne Summer Schools for its international students from partner universities and the worldwide Santander Universities network. The official starting date was July 23rd in the Centre for Molecular Medicine, Robert-Koch-Straße 21 in 50931 Cologne.

This year, the Cologne Summer Schools itinerary sheds light on particularly current topics. The courses consider the wide field of study multilingualism from different perspectives.

“We are very happy to demonstrate through this Summer School exactly how future-focused the University of Cologne really is. Since its formation by the Romans the city has been multilingual and has possessed a certain international flair, which is reflected in the universities linguistic research. This does not only apply to the philosophies and teaching professions; from Creative Writing to Medical Diagnostic, linguistic variety is a reality. Of course, we hope our guests can take something useful away from their experience, as we will also surely learn a lot from them”, explains Professor Christiane Bongartz, head of the professorship of Applied Linguistic at the University of Cologne and the patroness of this year’s Cologne Summer School.

This year’s KölnAlumni WELTWEIT Summer School revolves all around the topic of Europe. Attempting to answer the question “Quo vadis, Europa?” participants explore the structure and workings of Europe, theoretically and practically. On their excursion to Brussels, the students are going to visit the European Parliament; in Bonn however, they will get insights into the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
