Santander is committed to empowering 10 million people financially by 2025. We have three lines of action to promote financial inclusion:
We’re developing those three lines of action through initiatives like Prospera, a microcredit programme for people who lack access to the formal financial system. It’s just touched down at Santander Colombia in order to make a positive difference by creating jobs and helping small business owners.
Prospera started off at Santander Brasil, where it was enormously successful. As a result, the bank has been contributing more to financial inclusion than any other in Brazil. The microloans Prospera has granted to over 700,000 entrepreneurs total nearly USD 2 billion; 70% are supporting women small business owners. For this and other reasons, Fortune Magazine put Santander Brasil on its ranking of companies that are doing the most to change the world in 2018 and 2019.

The initiative is also running in other Latin American countries. Prospera has been in Argentina since 2015. In 2019, it arrived in Uruguay, where it began offering microloans and insurance to local business owners in the Salto department; since then, it has expanded throughout the country.
We also have other initiatives, like Tuiio. This ambitious programme helps underserved communities gain access to financial services. It also provides financial education so people can effortlessly make use of banking services and feel secure and supported. Tuiio is operating in Mexico at 85 branches and has 72,000 customers.
We also created Superdigital, a financial inclusion platform that offers basic financial services to individuals. From Brazil, it has expanded to other countries, such as Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Mexico.
Through these initiatives, we’ve empowered 4 million people since 2019. We hope our strategy to cover people’s and SMEs’ needs will help many others.
