Universia, the biggest network of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking universities, is one of Santander Universities Global Division's main areas of action. It is comprised of 1,216 educational institutions present in 23 countries, representing 11.2 million students and 888,500 professors. It is supported by the Conference of Spanish University Rectors (CRUE) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
Universia works to provide a place to exchange knowledge, innovation and cooperation, to help create new opportunities for the university community in areas related to employment, on-going training and the creation of social networks. It develops its work by promoting actions on and off line and its four strategic lines are: Employment, Training, Observatory and Social Networking. Within the framework of this mission, Universia has developed a portal (www.universia.net) that offers specific contents and services for the university community.
The III Universia International Meeting of vice-chancellors will be taking place at the end of July 2014, to which over 1,000 university chancellors will be invited. The purpose of this meeting will be to debate the cultural, political and economic challenges facing institutions and to find solutions (www.universiario2014.com).
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On 2010, Universia held the “2nd International Meeting of Universia Vice-chancellors” in Guadalajara, Mexico. The meeting brought together 1,000-plus universities, and led to the birth of the “Guadalajara Agenda” that details the conclusions to the meeting. And in 2005, Universia held the “First International Meeting of Universia Vice-chancellors”, in Sevilla, Spain, with the assistance of SS.MM. Kings of Spain.
In December 2010, the action programme approved at the Ibero-American Summit on "Education and Social Inclusion", included Santander Universities as a key actor in the Ibero-American Knowledge Space. It was the first time in the history of these summits that a private institution has received this recognition.
All these meetings are supported by Banco Santander through Santander Universities.
